It's not heat, I have the latest drivers for a GTX670 from Nvidia. I've tried to approach the problem 1 solution at a time. I personally don't suffer from artifacts but repeated black screen syndrome.

Try levelling up to level 16 and redoing the mission to gain access to later story missions. This seems to be an issue connected to the level of the player when they first completed this mission. Returning to the settlement will repeat the same cut scene and no new missions will be unlocked. There's a common issue where players are finding themselves not able to progress onwards after completing the mission found by visiting the Castle settlement. Try fast travelling far away if walking doesn't do the trick or you might need to quit and restart the game. Usuaully this is contained to an area and moving to another place should fix the issue.
